Community Service Write-Up

The community service I chose was, being an alternate for the Flex language arts interviews, student Flex interviews, Career Fair, hoop house, power point for the rotary, hung flyers, labeled letters, helped move bleachers from Homer Middle School to Homer High School, cleaned up garbage around my neighborhood and recycled.

Was boring at first, but when I started doing more it made me feel good about myself. When I started, I thought it was just a waste of time and wished that community service wasn’t a part of school that we needed to graduate. While doing community service for people outside of school, like the Career Fair, it was a blast, because I got to meet a lot of people and I also felt really appreciated for being there. I was getting thanked by other people and that made me feel really good. I may consider, actually doing more community service, because it helps build skills that some of us don’t have and it just makes you feel good.

After done with school, most people don’t want to do any community service because they don’t think it’s all that important. It is though, and I have a few reasons why. One reason is because helping out the community makes other people feel good and also yourself. Another reason, is because people in places like Haiti, are in need of help, and being a member of a nonprofit organization would make you feel better about who you are and also the people who are in need of help. The people, who are in need, will think of you as someone else, a hero.
The Rotary is a NGO. (Non Governmental Organization).

“The Rotary’s purpose is to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.” While I was there, I joined their meeting and I learned about what they did and how helpful they really are. They help out people in need, like when Haiti had the big earthquake the Rotary Organization was a part of that and they helped provide tents and food for the people that were in need of them. They also make money by donating their own money into the Happy Can, which is a can they have a choice to donate. One dollar for each happy thought, which they share out loud. They sometimes organize fairs to raise money so they can donate to places that are in need of reconstruction or for people who need food, clothes or a place to stay. In my opinion the Rotary is a great organization to have and is very helpful to the world.

World War II in Alaska

How did the war in Alaska affect the future of Alaska?

The Alcan Hwy, also known as Alaska Canadian Highway was built to transfer supplies and equipment over to Alaska from Canada. The equipment includes local riverboats, railway locomotives and housing supplies, which was mostly used in Northern California.

The Alcan Highway is mostly used now to take driving trips, from one place to another and to explore the wildlife.

Elmendorf is an airport that was built in Anchorage during World War II. It was built because it helped get the airplanes off the ground to either transfer supplies or to go to war. Elmendorf is now used for transferring passengers from one destination to their next destination or coming in from another place.

The Homer Airport was also built during World War II for transferring supplies around to other destinations. Now it is used to fly passengers around to their next destination or to come in from another place.

During World War II the population in Anchorage was approximately 4,229 this was because of the threat of the Japanese. After World War II the population grew to 47,000 because Anchorage was expanded by military construction.

As you can see, World War II had a big impact on the population in Alaska and also that the airports and Alcan Highway are useful to get around.

Ethics

Ethic means the difference between right or wrong. On the internet people shouldn’t give out their phone number or street address to anybody that they dont know.

When jules walked away from her computer without logging off that was a really bad idea because anybody who doesnt like her now has access to her user. It was also really wrong for Trish to send e-mails to other people on Jules user because everyone thinks it was Jules and now is against her. My opinion on this is that Trish did the wrong thing and should confront to Jules that she was the one who sent out bad emails on her user. Next time Jules decides to leave her computer even for one minute without a teacher in the room she should log off just incase.

My Hero

My hero is Dave. Dave is my hero for many reasons. One reason is because he got me my first job working as a job assistant for all the college staffs. The second reason is because he taught me how to right a resume, coverletter and how to feel out a job application for when i graduate and look for other jobs. He treats alot of people with respect even if people talk down to him and looks like he’s getting pissed of he’ll still have a calm voice 90% of the time.

Russ’ Chat Site for Teens

Ethics is a rule of conduct to respect to a particular class, or a particular group. Stuart asked his friend Russ, what his address and phone number was. Russ just wanted to meet him at a mall for starters but Stuart still wanted the phone number and address. This is wrong because you should never ask or give away personal details to some one you just met on the internet. If this were me i would tell him om not comfortable to give out my personal details and just tell him that i would like to meet at a public place.

This can also happen to a person when there just sitting in a restraunt and then a random person walks up to you and suddenly ask for your personal details. If your not comfartable of giving them your personal details just tell them sorry i dont know you and if they keep asking, just walk away or call the police.
